Shaping Visions into Reality
LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS
Featured Projects:
Weber State University
Landscape Master Plan:
Bingham Engineering prepared a
campus-wide landscape master plan for Weber State
University. The work encompassed a complete analysis of
the existing campus and its landscape systems (including vegetation, pedestrian
and vehicular traffic, site furniture and signage, building facades, aesthetic
qualities, views, and other physical characteristics). The proposed master plan addressed methods of
rejuvenating the campus and putting life and excitement back into its plazas
and student gathering spaces, and improving the function of its walks, parking
areas, and site amenities. A major focus
was the use of water-wise plants, and upgrading the irrigation system to a
state-of-the-art condition, including central control, ET scheduling, and flow
sensing.
CUWCD Education Gardens:
Central Utah Water
Conservancy District (CUWCD) developed a master plan for the installation of a
demonstration and education garden to be constructed on their grounds
surrounding the main business office in Orem,
Utah. The purpose of this garden is to show the
citizens of Utah
that water conservation is not only possible, but that it can be accomplished
in an aesthetic and attractive way. The
Gardens are a logical extension of the District’s other water conservation
activities.
Bingham Engineering was retained to provide
construction plans and documents necessary to bid and construct the Education Gardens.
Work includes providing plans and construction details for layout and
dimensioning, grading and drainage, utilities (electrical, sanitary sewer,
culinary water, storm water drainage), planting, irrigation, along with
specific details for installing various features and education
demonstrations. Some of the amenities
provided in the gardens include entry courtyard and overhead pergola,
amphitheater, education pavilions, block retaining walls, raised planter beds,
walks and paths, foot bridges, a dry streambed, fountain, rest room facilities,
and numerous irrigation-related exhibits.
Also included will be an extensive plant display area to showcase the
appropriate selection and use of Utah’s
low-water plants.
Sugar House Park
Irrigation System:
Sugar House
Park is a 110-acre urban
green space that may well be considered the most popular park along the entire
Wasatch Front. Bingham Engineering
evaluated its existing irrigation system and developed a complete, automatic
irrigation system for the entire park using state-of-the-art equipment and
high-efficiency design. Some of the
challenges addressed in the project were significant elevation changes, various
slope orientations, and a narrow watering window. Also included in the project were studies of
alterative water sources, new playground siting, phased construction schedules
and a full set of construction drawings and specifications. Phase 1 of the park was installed in 1999,
and Phase 2 in 2001. Phase 3, which
completed the renovation of the entire park irrigation system, was installed in
the spring of 2004.
